Application Process Overview
The application process consists of a review of the application by the Commission staff and the RN Field Nurse Surveyor, interviews with selected agency personnel and patients and a comprehensive on-site survey.
After the survey, a report is presented to our Director of Accreditation who awards accreditation.
Accreditation approval is granted for one year. Continued accreditation is contingent on ongoing compliance with the Accreditation Standards. Accredited agencies are monitored annually or more frequently as required to assess compliance.
On average, it takes from two to four months from the time an application is received through accreditation approval. To properly prepare the application, you will need to thoroughly review your policies and operations to ensure that they adhere to CAHC Standards. The amount of time needed for the pre-application process will, of course, vary from agency to agency.
CAHC professional staff are available as a resource for advice and clarification throughout the process. Additionally, providers are encouraged to attend our educational workshops, which are held throughout the year. These training sessions are a good opportunity to increase your understanding of the Standards, ask questions, and learn how to incorporate the Standards into your operations.
